We Care @ Kaki Bukit - Chinese New Year Celebrations 2010
As part of our Chinese New Year Community Involvement Programme (CIP) this year, the Secondary 4 and 5 students came together on 12 February to carry out the annual outreach programme - “We Care @ Kaki Bukit”. The objective of this event is to promote cohesion and understanding between the school and members of the community.
Both students and teachers have put in tremendous effort in making this event a successful one. Weeks before the event, our very own Chinese New Year goodie bags were designed and prepared by our students. On the day of the event, before heading for the blocks of flats, the students packed the bags with oranges, packet drinks and red packets containing chocolate gold coins.
12 February, 10 am. It was a morning filled with lots of excitement as many students looked forward to going round the blocks to distribute the goodie bags. It was their perseverance and good intentions that left them feeling very satisfied at the end of the event. Seeing the smiles on the residents’ faces, they have certainly brightened up the community for this joyous Chinese New Year.
An eye-opening experience for the students, it was indeed a meaningful day. Not only have they contributed to the community, they have also worked together in teams in making this event a success. Most importantly, they have had a great time, sharing some joy with the residents. In the words of one of the students: “It feels nice and satisfying to be able to put a smile on the old lady’s face.”
The school’s small but well-intended gesture would not have been possible without support from the School Advisory Committee and sponsorship from Sheng Siong Supermarket. Certainly, your effort is very much appreciated.
