English Department VISION, MISSION, PROGRAMME | STAFF Vision A vibrant community of linguistically competent individuals who are able to meet new challenges confidently. Mission To provide an authentic curriculum that nurtures students into confident, effective and proficient speakers of English. Instructional Programme The instructional programme seeks to infuse the various language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) into authentic tasks and assignments. Students will be given opportunities to explore topics and issues that are relevant to their interests and experience, both in the classroom and during special celebrations and observances. To cater to different learning needs, supplementary activities are organised for different target audiences. These include workshops (Sec 1 – Sec 5), structured remedial (compulsory for graduating classes) and consultation sessions, bridging programmes (international students, Sec 4NA) and learning trails (Sec 1 – Sec 2), among others. This year, a prototype programme was designed for the teaching of English to Sec 2 Normal (Technical) classes with special emphasis on reading and vocabulary-building.
