MissionTo provide a curriculum which extends beyond the classroom.
Instructional ProgrammeThe Humanities Academic Programme seeks to develop our students to research and discuss Humanities issues.
The Instructional Programme aims to offer a more varied approach to the subject through alternative assessments, remedial programmes, experiential field trips and the Humanities Challenge. In line with the BTSS TLLM Ladder Framework, our key approaches are as follows:- - Learner-focussed – Discussions & activities relating to current world issues/events.
- Authentic Pedagogy – Activities that cultivate critical thinking and promote learning that is related to real-life experiences.
- Demanding Curriculum – Use of graphic maps/mnemonics, analysis of question requirements & teaching academic vocabulary.
- Data –driven – Lesson Study and Teaching & Learning Evaluation.
- Engaging Environment – Use of newspaper articles, websites & ICT to enrich learning.
- Relationship & Rapport – Establishing strong bonds between teachers and students.
The key programmes for our students include fieldtrips to Fort Canning & Asian Civilisation Museum and ICT through Fieldwork at Sungei Buloh (Sec 1), Archaeological Fieldwork (Sec 2), Coastal Studies (Sec 3) and the Humanities Challenge. Through these programmes, we would like to: - Enrich our students’ learning of the Humanities through investigative work like examining sources and field observations.
- Build their character through developing self-discipline, responsibility and working with others.
- Give our students the opportunity to use ICT in their research and field work/project work
